Directing the quality assurance function, ensuring the effective maintenance, updating and continuous improvement of quality and food safety systems, and representing the company as a management representative for quality.Responsible for identifying and implementing all technical and regulatory compliance activities required of low-acid and acidified canned vegetable processors including SQF, FDA state & federal, USDA, Organic, Non-GMO Project, Kosher, state and all regulatory agencies. Assist with sustainable agriculture program and production programs and coordinate required audits.Develop and communicate product quality and regulatory compliance control points and contingency strategies to all department heads and manufacturing employees at our Dunn, NC plant. Also communicate with the Saticoy, CA plant and headquarters in Johnson City, TN, and customers.Reports directly to Plant Manager. Communicate to executive management at headquarters on the performance of the quality and food safety systems, and whenever a quality concern arises, investigate and recommend solutions for the problems.Responsible for auditing and maintaining lot tracking system for raw materials to finished materials. Responsible for pest elimination programs and overseeing waste disposal compliance.Update and document laboratory-testing procedures. Verify laboratory and processing procedures by auditing, tracing, and evaluating the manufacturing and analytical data.Assess product and process failures to develop and implement preventative actions. Act decisively and proactively to minimize regulatory and financial risks to the company by establishing compliance activity leadership and deployment of preventative actions. Monitor finished goods inventory and supplies inventory for quality and regulatory compliance. Releases for sale or use: finished products, raw materials, packing components, and labeling.Support sales and marketing efforts by insuring the accuracy of distributed technical information, possible development of new products and handling of customer inquiries concerning handling, storage and use of our products.
•Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred•2 -3 years Thermal processing experience required with a sound knowledge of LACF, Acidified, HARPC, HAACP and safety principles for food production and handling•Certified in HARPC, HACCP, SQF and Better Process Controls or willing to become certified. •Prefer 5 to 7 years Quality Assurance/Control management experience in a canned fruit or vegetable processing environment•Experience with creating and managing a SQF certification or similar program desirable•Must have effective leadership, problem solving, influencing and negotiation skills•Proficient with Word and Excel with effective written and oral communication skills•Limited travel is required•Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
