GMA is seeking candidates for an internship in our Nutrition and Health group to work closely on projects within the Health and Wellbeing strategic area of focus.
Your key contacts will be GMA staff and member companies’ staff on an as needed basis.
Your day-to-day responsibilities would include:
Attend conferences and meetings
Compose meeting/conference/webinar summaries
Support research and comment development
Facilitate GMA member communications
Analyze relevant food and nutrition published research articles as they are released
Find and summarize relevant media articles
By the end of this internship, you should have learned:
Role of packaged food industry in shaping food and nutrition policies and initiatives. Intern will demonstrate:
Greater understanding of current impactful federal nutrition and labeling policies and programs
Increased awareness of and familiarity with nutrition and regulatory stakeholders (government agencies, consumer advocacy groups, industry trade associations, public health organizations, industry leaders)
Enhanced knowledge of the scientific foundation / evidence base that informs national food, nutrition, and labeling policy
Basic working understanding of FDA and USDA FSIS food labeling regulations, with a more thorough understanding of Nutrition Facts Panel labeling requirements and anticipated changes
Broad understanding of GMA organizational structure and subject matter expertise and services that are provided to member companies
The best candidates will have:
Graduate student in nutrition, food science, public health or related discipline
Interest in science policy and food/nutrition regulatory issues required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
Strong written and verbal communication skills required
